The HSBC/McKinsey Business Case Competition 2010

2 & 3 June 2010


Rules for Participants

  • Computers are NOT allowed.
  • PDAs and all other electronic memory devices are NOT allowed.
  • Laser pointer and similar presentation devices are NOT allowed.
  • Reference material is NOT allowed.
  • Mobile phones and all mobile communication devices need to be switched off during preparation and presentation sessions.
  • Participants should at all times be accompanied by a student chaperone or a member of the organising committee.
  • Participants should at all times follow the instructions of the student chaperones and organising committee.
  • Participants should observe and obey these rules at all times.
  • Participants should ensure they reach all venues in a timely manner.
  • If in doubt, participants should consult a member of the organising committee.
  • Participants are expected to be present at the presentation venue 5 minutes before the start of their presentations. Presentations start exactly at the schedules time.
  • No additional time will be provided if teams are late for their presentation. If teams have not started the presentation 10 minutes after the scheduled time the team will automatically forfeit.
  • In case one team member is sick or otherwise unable to participate the team can continue as a team of 3. A team that has less than 3 members has to forfeit.
  • Team members that have not participated in at least one presentation are not eligible for any price or certificate of participation.


Participants will be provided with:


  • overhead acetates .
  • one set of markers for overhead acetates in 3 colours.
  • one set of whiteboard markers in 3 colours.
  • Participants are allowed to bring HKEAA approved calculators and rulers, pens and pencils, plain paper and cue cards. A list of HKEAA approved calculator models can be found here.
  • Participants will be provided with a breakfast snack, lunch and refreshments throughout the day.


Teams who fail to comply with competition rules may be disqualified.
